Design optimization for fast heat-transfer gauges

Heat flux gauges at a flat plate are designed suited to measure the heat transfer in transition boundary layers. The measuring technique employed (cold thin films) is convenient for transient experimental facilities (such as a Ludwieg tube). The development of a well defined and optimized sensor design is discussed.

A FAST MESH-FREE GALERKIN METHOD FOR THE ANALYSIS OF STEADY-STATE HEAT TRANSFER

The element-free Galerkin method is employed for two-dimensional analysis of steady-state heat transfer. The unknown response of the system, i.e. temperature is approximated using the moving least squares technique. Numerical integration of governing simultaneous system of equations is performed by Gauss quadrature and new modified nodal integration techniques. Numerical examples and tests have...

Nanofluids for Heat Transfer Enhancement – A Review

A nanofluid is a dilute liquid suspension of particles with at least one critical dimension smaller than ~100 nm. Research works so far suggest that nanofluids offer excellent heat transfer enhancement over conventional base fluids. The enhancement depends on several factors such as particle shape, particle size distribution, volume fraction of nanoparticles, temperature, pH, and thermal conduc...

Optimization of Radiative Heat Transfer inside Greenhouses

This paper presents a multi-objective procedure based on a fully elitist genetic algorithm, GA, able to optimize the radiative heat transfer inside greenhouses used to grow crops. Details of the genetic algorithm used is presented herein but the focus is on the heat transfer. The decision variables are the tube temperature and tube radius, that affects directly the entalphy heating flow, and th...

Heat Transfer Measurements Using Thin Film Gauges and Infrared Thermography on a Film Cooled Transonic Vane

This work presents a comparison of thin film gauge (TFG) and infrared (IR) thermography measurement techniques to simultaneously determine heat transfer coefficient and film cooling effectiveness. The first comparison was with an uncooled vane where heat transfer coefficient was measured at Mex=0.77 and Tu=16%. Relatively good agreement was found between the results of the two methods and the e...
